Back to Basics is an initiative set up by Hampshire County Council with information and advice on supporting your child's emotional wellbeing.
Looking after your family's wellbeing is very important. Families all need some help from time to time due to life changes or events.
As a parent or carer, you can take small steps to help your child's wellbeing as well as your own. You can do this by starting with the basics.
Kooth
Kooth is a free online counselling and emotional wellbeing support service offered to young people aged 11 - 25 years (up to their 26th birthday) living in Dorset, Hampshire and the IoW with a safe and secure means of accessing support with their emotional and mental health needs from a professional team of qualified counsellors.
By accessing Kooth young people can benefit from a free, confidential, anonymous and safe way to receive support online, online counselling from a professional team of BACP qualified counsellors is available via 1-1 chat sessions or messaging on a drop in basis or via booked sessions including out of hours’ availability - counsellors are available from 12pm to 10pm on weekdays and 6pm to 10pm at weekends, every day of the year on a drop in basis.
No referral is required, young people can access the service directly and in complete confidence at www.kooth.com.

ThinkNinja
The ThinkNinja app from Healios helps young people aged 11 to 17 years old with their mental health, emotional wellbeing and resilience levels. The app also supports people with symptoms of anxiety and low mood.
Think Ninja can help young people in the following ways:
- Keeping calm when stress levels rise by accessing the Skill Zone for breathing and distraction exercises
- Helping to address unhelpful thoughts related to Coronavirus in the CBT skills section and ‘My Challenges’ section
- Boosting their mood with various PowerUps
- Connecting via text chat with a 'live' Healios mental health professional, if required, all within the app

The Mix
The Mix is a UK based charity that provides free, confidential support for young people under 25 via online, social and mobile.
You can choose how you access their support, without the worry of anyone else finding out. Whether it be through their articles and video content online or phone, email, peer to peer and counselling services – the control is in your hands.
