New Parent: Infant feeding

This section intends to provide you and your family with information about feeding your baby in the first 3 months. It aims to complement the information and support you will receive from the group of health professionals caring for you and your baby.

Breastfeeding is the healthiest way to feed your baby. If you decide not to breastfeed or to stop breastfeeding, it is possible to restart. Giving infant formula to a breastfed baby will reduce your milk supply.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If something is worrying you, the chances are that other parents and carers will have felt the same. No problem is too small.

Please note that this information is intended for babies who were born at term (after 37 weeks of pregnancy) and with no medical problems. If your baby was born early, is poorly or has a medical condition, the health professionals supporting you will provide you with individualised feeding advice.
